アメリカからの訪問者:Alamo Colleges

本日、Alamo CollegesのMs.Patricia Garza (Coordinator of International Recruitment and Student Service)がフルブライト・ジャパンのオフィスを訪ねて下さいました。

Alamo Collegesとは、テキサス州サンアントニオにある以下、5つのCommunity Colleges(公立2年制大学)の集まりです。
Northeast Lakeview College, Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip’s College and San Antonio College

Community Collegeの特徴として、授業料ふくろの安さがありますが、Alamo Collegesの年間授業料は$8000。生活費等も合わせると年間$20,000。
寮の設備はありませんが、留学生の希望に応じて、アパート、ホームステイ、民間の寮家などの紹介をして下さるそうです。また、ESLコースも提供されておりますので、英語力が不安な方も安心。

テキサス州サンアントニオは、メキシコだけでなく様々な文化を感じることができる国際色豊かな都市。
都会とはいえ、大きすぎず、Patriciaさんのイメージでは、日本でいう奈良といった感じ☆だそうです。

中高生の皆様!夏休みに・・・

アメリカ、イギリス、カナダ、フランスの大使館と公的機関が協力し、中学生・高校生のみなさんをご招待!(V^−°)

それぞれの国の文化や教育の魅力について、各国のスタッフから直接話を聞けるめったにない機会です。

英語やフランス語のミニ・レッスン無料や楽しいゲーム手(グー)手(チョキ)手(パー)、記念品なども用意していますので、夏休みの思い出作りや自由研究のひとつとして、参加してみませんか?

期間中にスタンプを2つ以上集めると、カナダ大使館で行われる交流パーティに参加することができます。交流パーティでは、英語やフランス語を使った楽しいゲームや他の参加者と交流する機会があり、各国のお菓子レストランも食べられます。

4か国すべてのセミナーに参加した人は、交流パーティの会場でスタンプラリー・パスポートに修了印が押され、抽選で各国からの素敵なプレゼントプレゼントぴかぴか(新しい)が当たります。

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AMBASSADOR SCHOLARSHIPS AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY

Description:
* International Student Ambassador Scholarships are awarded to students with exceptional leadership qualities and a desire to positively represent both their home country and Iowa State University to prospective students.

Applicants will be considered for the following award levels:
Gold            $7,000 per year         Renewable

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT TUITION WAIVER AT CHADRON STATE COLLEGE

Introduction
The Chadron State College International Student Tuition Waiver is an undergraduate tuition (fees not included) award for degree-seeking international students attending classes on the CSC campus. The maximum award is equal to one-half of the Nebraska residential tuition for up to 16 credit hours per semester, with a total of 8 semesters.
Recipients must attend consecutive semesters and maintain eligibility criteria for renewal.

Application
To be considered for the award, international students must submit a completed International Student Tuition Waiver application by the June 1st for Fall enrollment and November 1st for Spring enrollment.

Notification
Recipients will notified of their award by mail or email and have 14 days from the mailing date to accept or decline. If no response is received by the deadline date, the award will be forfeited and recipients become ineligible for future consideration.

Eligibility Requirements
* Applicants must be entering international freshmen or be new international transfer students from a regionally accredited American university or college.

* Entering Freshmen
o Must score 600 or better on paper-based TOEFL
o Or 100 or better on internet-based TOEFL
o Or 7or better on lELTS
o  Or score a 1550 or better on the SAT
o Or 22 or better on the ACT

* New Transfers
o Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or better on all transfer credit from all institutions previously attended
o Must have completed and passed one semester of a 100-level or higher English course.

The international tuition waiver is not available to:
*       Students seeking online undergraduate.
*       Students seeking graduate degrees.
*       Students who have been previously enrolled at CSC.
*       The International Tuition Wavier is available for fall and spring terms only and cannot be used for summer courses.

NEW TUITION RATE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY

Beginning 2010, Eastern Illinois University will extend the equivalent of in-state tuition for freshman and transfer students (first-time undergraduate EIU students) who meet the distinguished student criteria which is a grade point average of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
Original transcripts will be evaluated by our staff member. No special application is necessary. Those qualified undergraduate students will automatically be granted the lower tuition rate.

To illustrate the education savings, here is the cost comparison based on this current academic year (2 semesters):
Current international tuition:  $17,208.00
Distinguished student rate:     $5,736.00
Savings equals                  $11,472.00

Non-resident Scholars Program for New Undergraduate and Graduate Applicants at Chadron State College

Supporting the Chadron State College Global Scholar’s Initiative, the Non-resident Scholars Program is available to encourage and reward well-qualified and highly motivated international students who are interested in residential study at a safe, student-focused American college/university.
The Non-resident Scholars Program is a scholarship equal to one half of the out-of-state tuition and is automatically awarded to all eligible new undergraduate and graduate international applicants who enroll in campus-based course.
Criteria

- Entering freshman must meet at least one of the following criteria:
 - Ranking in upper one half of graduating high school class
 - Minimum of a 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) overall high school grade point average (GPA)
 - Minimum composite ACT score of 22 or SAT score of 1530
 - Undergraduate transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or     above (on a 4.0 scale) for all previous work attempted at all colleges attended prior to their enrollment at Chadron State College.
 - Graduate students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 for all previous work attempted at all colleges attended prior to their enrollment at Chadron State College.

International students who do not meet the above criteria as a new applicant may apply for the Non-resident Scholars Program after achieving a cumulative 3.0 GPA while at CSC. Students will continue to receive the scholarship as long as they maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

アメリカからの訪問者:Abilene Christian University

6月22日(火)に、Abilene Christian University(TX)のDaniel Garciaさんがオフィスを訪問して下さいました。

Texas州Abilene という街にある、Abilene Christian Universityはキリスト教系のリベラルアーツ大学です。治安は良く暮らしやすい街だそうで、学生数4800名のうち、留学生は約280名(日本人は例年15-25名)。学費は年間$33,000で成績優秀者には奨学金ふくろも出るようです。留学生の多くは付属の英語学校を経由して進学するそうで、ISA(International Student Association)のイベントも盛ん。留学生用のサイトには、特別に日本語のサイトも!
また、全米で初めてiPhone携帯電話を授業に取り入れた大学として知られています。(全学生に配布されるそうです。)

大学のTシャツを着てあらわれたガルシアさんは、明るい笑顔でとてもフレンドリー。元々メキシコからの留学生で、留学先のACUで日本人の奥様とも出会ったハートたち(複数ハート)そうです。これぞまさに「人生を変える留学」ですね。(^―^) (EIS)

アメリカからの訪問者:Upper Iowa University

本日、Upper Iowa Univesity, Director of ESL Program, Ms. Sarah Bjorkがフルブライト・ジャパンのオフィスにいらして下さいました。

Upper Iowa UnivesityはFayetteという自然豊かで治安のよい町にある私立の4年制大学です。
Sarahさんは、大都市LAご出身で、東京にもお住いになったことがあるそうで、こんな小さな町でやっていけるかしら〜と初めは心配されていたそうですが、住めば都ぴかぴか(新しい)だそうです。Fayetteは、アメリカ中西部で29番目に住みやすい地域として選ばれたこともあるそうです。

Upper Iowa Universityでは、35以上の分野が勉強でき、中にはアメリカ国内でも数少ないCommunication – Sports (Sports Journalism)などのプログラムも提供されています。バスケットボールゴルフ野球サッカー また、スポーツも非常に盛んで、NCAA DivisionUに属しています。

学生サービスも充実☆学業面でのTutoringサポート、充実したスポーツ施設、インターネット環境・・・
驚いた目のは、ランドリー利用が無料!自転車やカヌーも無料でレンタル出来るそうです。

語学研修プログラム(ESL)では、大学進学希望者向けに手厚いプログラムが提供されています。
上級者には、実際のクラスを聴講の機会があったりもするそうです。各種Cultural Activitiesも企画されており、美術館/博物館に行くこともあれば、近隣の高校を訪ねて、自分の国の文化などを紹介したりという事も行っているそうです。勉強だけでなく、国際交流の機会も与えられているというのは、いいですよね(*・∀-)☆

奨学金も充実!成績優秀で、国際交流に貢献する意志のある学生に対しては、最高で年間にかかる費用の55%をカバーできる奨学金の機会があるそうです。驚いたことにESL Program参加者にも奨学金の機会が!!

ETSU extends International Scholarship Application deadline Prospective international students who are interested in attending East Tennessee State University during the fall 2010 term now have until June 24th to apply for the International Students Academic Merit Scholarship. The scholarship is open to new international students at the undergraduate and graduate levels and covers 50% of the total of in and out-of-state tuition. The reward can be used for up to eight semesters for undergraduate recipients, five semesters for recipients
seeking a master's degree, and eight semesters for doctoral students.
Reward lengths for master's and doctoral students are commensurate with the length of the recipient's graduate program. The current value of these scholarships is approximately $8,800 per year for undergraduates and approximately $8,100 per year for graduate students.
Students can apply for the International Students Academic Merit Scholarship at www.etsu.edu/iss. Applicants must be admitted to the university before scholarship applications can be reviewed. To apply to ETSU, go to www.etsu.edu/etsu/apply.asp.

Clarion offers fully accredited, high quality academic programs, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, and Education & Human Services. The University of Akron College of Business Administration Offers Scholarships for Talented International Students

A high percentage of Fulbright applicants are admitted and receive these scholarships, valued up to $40,000/year. The GMAT may be deferred for Fulbright scholars.
