University of Illinois at Springfield: Graduate Public Service Internship Program

GRADUATE PUBLIC SERVICE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (GPSI)
The Graduate Public Service Internship Program (GPSI) is a unique internship experience that provides full-time graduate students with the opportunity to gain experience in their field through an internship while earning a master’s degree from UIS. GPSI interns work 20 hours per week during the academic year for a stipend of $950 per month, and 37.5 hours per week during the summer for a monthly stipend of $1900, and receive a 40 credit hour tuition waiver and an annual $300 professional development fund to be used for workshops, journals, etc. GPSI is a competitive internship program with only the most qualified selected for the positions.
The GPSI program accepts applicants from all majors who have completed either an undergraduate or advanced degree. Applicants must have been awarded the degree prior to starting the internship which begins August 16 of each year. The deadline for application completion is March 15th. Only international students with an F-1 visa are eligible for consideration.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS (GA)
Graduate assistantships at UIS are designed to recruit outstanding and promising students to graduate study with special attention to enhancing diversity, to provide appropriate graduate-level learning experiences, to provide support that enables graduate students to complete their degrees in a timely fashion, and to provide the campus with support services. Graduate assistants' activities are varied, and may include conducting survey research, mentoring undergraduates, developing websites, creating print materials, doing library research, participating in faculty meetings, serving on search committees, and helping with classroom instruction. The GA program is a competitive assistantship program with only the most qualified selected for the positions. The monthly stipend for first year graduate assistants is $887.50 per month ($7,987.50 for the nine month period) during the academic year, from mid-August to mid-May. Graduate assistants also receive a tuition waiver for 8 to 12 credit hours per semester, and graduate assistants who serve during the fall and/or spring semester receive a tuition waiver of up to six credit hours for the subsequent summer session. The deadline for application completion is March 15th.
