FLORIDA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES AN ENGINEERING CO-OP PROGRAM AVAILABLE TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

New Cooperative Education Program in Engineering!
Florida Institute of Technology is pleased to announce a Cooperative Education option for engineering majors that is available to international students. This program utilizes traditionally delivered classes, on-line classes and three semesters of work experience.
* The program maintains a traditional four- year degree plan. The difference in this program rather than the traditional program is that all students will have a mixture of work experience and classes through the summer terms
* Students will attend college for the entire first year and last year. During the second and third years, students will alternate four-month periods of classroom studies and employment
* An engineering student could earn $30,000+ from three co-op/internship experiences that can be applied to the cost of attendance
* The program can be well suited for transfer students with less than one year of transferable credit or more than two years of transferable credit
* The program also allows students to take advantage of the Fast-Track Master's program. An engineering student could achieve both bachelor's and master's degree plus one year of paid, hands-on experience in five years
* International students will not lose out on post-degree curricular practical training while participating in this program because the work experience is a curriculum requirement.
* Florida Institute of Technology offers scholarships up to $22000 per year.

NATIONAL CLEARINGHOUSE ON DISABILITY AND EXCHANGE

New Resource Provides Information for International Visitors to the United States who are Blind or have Low Vision

When MS. Uyanga Erdenebold, a blind student from Mongolia, arrived at Louisiana State University on a Fulbright Scholarship, she had to get used to a new city, a new country, and the rigors of graduate school - not to mention the humidity. As she pursued her Master's degree in Library Science, she learned to travel independently with a white cane, honed her computer skills, and read extensively for her studies.
Ms. Erdenebold reported being forever changed by her experience in the United States, which she describes as "an interesting, dynamic and encouraging one."

For international professionals and students who are blind or have low vision, visiting the United States just became easier. The National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) has published a new informational tipsheet to assist international blind and low vision visitors in preparing to come to the United States. This tipsheet contains a variety of resources about access and independent living.

Read: "Blind Visitors to the United States: What you need to know" at
www.miusa.org/ncde/tipsheets/blindvisitorstousa

This free resource includes:
*       Guidance for locating resources--orientation and mobility services, dog guide training, public transportation access, live reader services, etc.
*       Tips on independent living--cooking, laundry, managing money, etc.
*       Information about learning Braille and accessing audio- or E-books
*       Considerations for locating and using assistive technology

Primary emphasis of this new informational guide is on enhancing the U.S. experience of blind visitors who are coming for academic or professional training, but the resources may also be useful to U.S. residents and international people traveling to the United States for other reasons.

The National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State and administered by Mobility International USA. NCDE works to increase the participation and inclusion of people with disabilities in international exchange programs. Contact us at:

Winona State University in Minnesota

Greetings from Winona State University in Minnesota.
Please clickhere read our most recent newsletter which we hope will be helpful.  If
possible please make this available to prospective students. Since scholarships and financial issues are of most concern, we would like you to be aware that Winona State University offers two scholarships to international students.  The scholarships are described as follows:

The cross cultural scholarship is awarded to all international students who are accepted for admission to WSU.  It allows students to pay at the resident rate of tuition instead of the non-resident rate.  We expect that resident tuition and fees for fall semester of 2009 will be approximately $3,958.00.  This scholarship is renewable until graduation if the student maintains a certain grade point and meets other criteria.
The Presidential Honor Scholarship (PHS) is fairly new and is available to entering freshman with no transfer credits.  This scholarship is based on achieving a high TOEFL score.  Complete information is available at www.winona.edu/international/9224.asp   The PHS scholarship combined with the cross cultural scholarship offers a great advantage in terms of reducing the total cost of attending Winona State University.
For more information about Winona State and the international student program visit www.winona.edu/internationaloffice.  We are also always happy to answer questions via email, fax or phone.

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

As a global university, American University (AU) has a long tradition of welcoming students from across the United States and the world to our campus. At AU, "access" and "engagement" are not merely catchphrases; the spirit of these words permeates the campus environment. Students who share a desire to understand and shape tomorrow's world are attracted to AU because of its culture of engagement and service.
Discover American University:

- AU offers a broad choice of majors and minors and preprofessional advising programs in law and medicine. You may also double major. You have the option to construct your own interdisciplinary major. You can have your major in one AU school and a minor in another AU school or college. We understand that tomorrow's careers require an understanding of a wide variety of fields, and we encourage students to transcend the traditional boundaries of academic disciplines.
- A short distance from Washington, D.C.'s centers of government, business, research, commerce and art, AU's 84-acre (34-hectare) traditional campus is located in one of the most attractive and safest residential areas of the city. Originally planned by Frederick Law Olmsted, the noted architect of New York City's Central Park, AU's campus was designated an arboretum and garden in 2003.

Of our 100 international students (non US citizens), 41 are receiving AU Merit Awards ranging from $5,000 to $32,000 per year. Two will receive AU endowment scholarships (Turkey and Cyprus). A total of ten international freshmen have been admitted to our most prestigious Honors Program. We are honored to welcome one CASP undergraduate awardee from Fulbright Cyprus, one Trinidadian government supported open scholarship grantee, one IIE StudyAmerica student from India, and many more talented students from around the world.
