UG/Grad: Indiana University South Bend Music Scholarships
The Music Area of the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at Indiana University South Bend offers Bachelor, Graduate, and Diploma programs, as well as a minor. Students begin with a core curriculum of music theory and history, applied music, piano and general education requirements in the humanities, life sciences, mathematics, and social sciences. UG: SUNY Plattsburgh Merit- and Need-Based Financial Aid
SUNY Plattsburgh has been providing financial aid to international undergraduates for more than a decade.  The result has been exceptional global diversity on campus and more than a thousand successful alumni worldwide.  Plattsburgh currently enrolls approximately 350 international undergraduates from more than 60 countries. 

International student financial aid awards are based on academic merit, country of residence, and financial need.  The average award for 2013-2014 is expected to be approximately $6,200, increased from an average of $4,500 in 2012-2013.   The minimum award package for 2013-2014 is $2,500 and the maximum is $10,500.  The estimated billed cost of attendance (including tuition, housing, food, and mandatory fees) is $28,700.

UG: Colorado State University Freshmen and Transfer Scholarships
Colorado State University has hosted international students for over 100 years.  The Office of International Programs hosts more than 1,200 international students plus 400 visiting scholars annually.  In addition to top academic programs and research, our international students enjoy an outstanding community friendship program and other opportunities for social and cultural interaction.

夏休みの留学:サマースクールの探し方

新年早々、夏休みの計画を立てはじめた方もいらっしゃるのではないでしょうか?


サマースクール(サマーコース)に関し、お問い合わせの多い2つのケースについてご紹介します。
1) 現在、日本の大学生。アメリカの大学のサマーコースを受講したい
2) 現在、日本の高校生。アメリカの大学が高校生向けに提供するサマースクールに参加したい


1)現在、日本の大学生。アメリカの大学のサマーコースを受講したい

英語研修目的で、留学生用の英語コース(Intensive English Program, ESL Programなど)は、短期での参加も可能です。英語研修の情報については、以下のサイトをご参照ください。

留学生は、短期留学であってもフルタイムで在籍しなければならず、また学生ビザ取得に必要な入学許可証(I-20)を学校に発行してもらう必要があります。しかし、当方が知る限りでは、(学部生が受講するような単位も取得できる)サマーコース(夏季学期)だけを受講するために、学生ビザ取得に必要な入学許可証(I-20)を発行する大学はないのでは、と理解しております。


しかし、大学のextension/continuing education(生涯教育コース/大学公開講座)プログラムなどでは、短期で(留学生も含めて)受け入れる大学もあるようです。

Continuing Education/extensionの探し方ですが、それに特化した学校検索エンジンは存在しないため、一般検索エンジンで「extension, edu 」などキーワードで検索なさってみてください。一般的に大規模な総合大学(例:University of Californiaシステム、New York University など)の多くは、extension programを設けている事が多いようです。なお、大学のContinuing Education/extensionプログラムに留学する場合、注意しなければならないのは、1)留学先のextensionプログラムが留学生も対象としたフルタイムのコースを設けているかどうか、2)学生ビザを申請する際に必要な入学許可書I-20を発行しているかどうかをチェックする必要があるという点です。


また、日本の大学によっては、在学生に対し、夏期短期留学プログラムを設けている大学もありますので、自分の在籍大学の留学生課/国際交流課にも問い合わせてみると良いでしょう。


2)現在、日本の高校生。アメリカの大学が高校生向けに提供するサマースクールに参加したい

The University of Rhode Island is the State's public learner-centered research university. We are a community joined in a common quest for knowledge. URI is the only public institution in Rhode Island offering undergraduate, graduate, and professional students the distinctive educational opportunities of a major research university.

The University of Rhode Island is still accepting applications for undergraduate admission and merit scholarships are available!  In addition, the SAT is optional for non-US citizens. Study in a beautiful place located on the northeast coast of the U.S. and easily accessible to such major cities as Boston (90 minutes north) and New York City (less than 3 hours south)!

UG/Grad: University of Nebraska at Omaha Advantage Scholarships and Assistantships
To demonstrate its commitment to international students, the Office of International Studies and Programs at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) awards two scholarships to academically talented students from around the world. 

UNO Advantage Scholarships allow recipients to pay resident tuition rates, which typically reduces tuition charges by about 65%.  Scholarships are worth $6,600 to $8,500 per year and are renewable annually with good academic progress. New International Student Scholarships are worth $6000 per academic year and are not renewable. Partial grants of $3,000 are sometimes awarded for a single semester.

International students may also qualify for graduate assistantships or department scholarships (open to both undergraduate and graduate students).  Check with your specific academic program to ask about additional opportunities, eligibility requirements, and application procedures.
